Art exhibition: Bold Buildings & Beautiful Birds - Megan Dixon Dawes and Debra Smith

-

Where: Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre, corner Vulcan Street and Campbell Street, Moruya

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10am – 4pm

Eurobodalla artists Megan Dixon Dawes and Debra Smith hold great admiration for one another's creations. Their collaborative efforts have culminated in an exhibition showcasing regional birds and buildings - some of which will be recognisable to locals.

Dawes’ acrylic artworks depict outback landscapes and still-life paintings of houses. Mid-century art and the many apparently luxurious beach holiday houses inspire her creations. A cubist/modernist influence is clearly seen in the rendering of broad planes of flat colour and heavy black/white lines.

Living on a conservation block, Smith strives to reduce the effects of urbanisation on birds and raise community awareness about their requirements. Her life-like pastels combine the accuracy of the photorealist with the knowledge and care of the bird-lover.
