Art exhibition Raewyn Lawrence | Recovery
-
Opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 10am–4pm
Award winning artist Raewyn Lawrence explores the destruction and renewal of the bush in her latest exhibition Recovery. The devastating and destructive Black Summer bushfires brought anxiety and grief to the community, however witnessing the bush regenerate also brought a sense of hope for the future.
This body of work has been a positive force in Lawrence’s own struggle with current and future climate issues. Lawrence draws inspiration from the natural beauty of Eurobodalla's landscapes, the pristine bushland, mountains, rivers and beaches.
Lawrence's earliest memory of her practice was enjoying the process of creating, drawing, colouring, stitching and sculpting, most of all painting, a deep love of colour drives her creative pursuits. She paints from the solitude of her studio on the Far South Coast of NSW, she loves to inhabit her studio, whether it's to create or have a cuppa, listen to music or just stare out the window.
Lawrence enjoys a good yarn, reading about local history and being intrigued by stories, folklore and myths that are irresistible and challenging to translate onto canvas. Similarly, Lawrence’s own family history and childhood memories are a rich source of her inspiration that brings a desire to create deeper, more emotional and personal work.
