Art exhibition: Floating through calm water - Julz Beresford
-
Where: Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre, corner Vulcan Street and Murray Street, Moruya
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10am – 4pm. Access from Murray Street after 12.30pm on Saturdays.
Across February and March 2025, the Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre is delighted to present the first regional gallery solo exhibition from Dyarubbin/Hawkesbury-based contemporary painter Julz Beresford, whose heroic paintings are emblematic of her lifelong affinity for the Hawkesbury region of New South Wales.
An essential part of Beresford’s practice is being present in the landscape, closely observing its natural rhythms and the vagaries of light and shadows through the day. The resulting paintings are awash with moody romanticism, sending the viewer on a voyage across glassy, rippling waterways that snake through a tangle of bush and tumbling sandstone. These shimmering pools are bound by epic escarpments crested with spindly, ethereal wisps of eucalyptus.
Julz Beresford is represented by Michael Reid Sydney + Berlin. She is also a 2024 Basil Sellers Art Prize finalist.
