Art exhibition: Broulee: A Walk - Ken Searle

This exhibition records the past 10 years of Ken Searle's visits to the coastal strip between Guerilla Bay and South Broulee Beach, including the hinterland township of Broulee.
Searle has explored these landscapes on foot and by eye, stopping to paint and sketch on site - using oil paint, pencil, and charcoal. While he sits working on these sketches, the sounds, and smells seep into his work.
The artworks capture the connection between sea and land, and between sea and the sky. The large elements of topography, headlands, island, river, creek, and lagoon - hold the eye. From above and looking down, a necklace of seaweed, or the history of the Black Summer bushfires in the ‘handwriting’ left by an outgoing tide is visible.
Searle describes his method and art practice as ‘walking into the landscape’ - letting the area itself shape the form and content of the portrayal. The artwork for this exhibition invites viewers to accompany him on these walks.
