Art exhibition: Little Hammers - Tim Barrass
-
Where: Mechanics Institute, Page Street, Moruya
Opening hours: Wednesday to Sunday, 10am – 4pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
Artist talk: Sunday 2 August, 4pm
Little Hammers is a live sculptural sound work operated by the artist. Using small electromechanical 'hammers' to resonate found materials and the building itself, Tim plays with the dynamics of distraction, inviting us to question how and where we focus.
It might look like wires and discarded objects, but something else is happening. Sounds appear, move and dissolve as you move through the room. Patterns form, then slip away.
The materials - salvaged, worn, sometimes chewed or rusted - are part of the work, hinting at what we overlook and what we choose to notice. There’s a quiet mischief here: a nudge to consider how attention shifts, and how easily it’s guided.
Move through the space, pause and listen. The work changes with position, time and attention.
