Artist Lizette Richards

Lizette Richards is a South Coast-based silversmith, artist and teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Gold and Silversmithing) from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Teaching (High School Visual Arts and Photography) from the University of Sydney.

Working mainly in metal, both precious and otherwise, Lizette makes wearable and sculptural pieces that centre on place and its connections to memory. Working from a studio by the sea, she takes the coastal environment as a principal theme, explored through casting, forging, etching and material manipulation, often alongside textiles, porcelain and precious gems.

Lizette views adornment as a living archive: a way of holding and carrying personal history through touch, texture and placement on the body. Drawing on the long history of adornment across cultures, her work asks how personal stories can be held and carried in something made to be worn. She continues to experiment within her practice, alongside teaching and exploring other mediums as opportunities arise.
